Tax Controversies

At the Law Office of Matthew L. Hood, LLC, we represent and advise small to medium size businesses and individuals on a broad array of federal, state and local tax matters. Our lead tax lawyer, Professor Emeritus Edwin T. Hood, has over 40 years of tax experience, both in academia and in private practice. In fact, many of the tax lawyers in the Kansas City Metropolitan area were taught under his direction when he served as Director of the UMKC Graduate Tax Program, a position he held for over 35 years. He was also instrumental in forming the Kansas City Tax Clinic (located at the UMKC Law School), which represents low-income taxpayers in tax disputes with the IRS. He still serves as an advisor to the Clinic. Two other lawyers with our firm, Matt Hood and Susannah Evans, serve as volunteer lawyers to the Clinic and represent low-income taxpayers before the IRS.

Our firm will represent clients with respect to tax controversies in a broad array of issues. So if you owe a debt to the IRS, have failed to file tax returns, or if you or your business is currently being audited by the IRS, we can provide you assistance in the following areas:
  • Installment agreements
  • Collection Due Process hearings
  • IRS audits
  • Collection: Offers in Compromise
  • Innocent Spouse Relief
  • Other IRS debt collection matters including preparing past-due tax returns
